All Steam Versions of Tomb Raider Updated – DLSS, No More Denuvo, Epic Online Services Added

All three modern Tomb Raiders games have now been updated on PC, and with it the removal of Denuvo from Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The game getting the most changes out of all the titles is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with it being updated to the latest version of DLSS and an updated denoiser for its ray-traced shadows. Rise of the Tomb Raider also got a little bit of attention thanks to the addition of DLSS. This new update however also updates the games to Epic Online Services, an engine-agnostic free online service provider from Epic Games. I would theorize that this is a cost-cutting measure from Square Enix in order to avoid paying for online services as Epic provides theirs for free.

Some reports claim to have seen that the online service is now requiring they set up an account no matter which platform you’re playing on, however, some outlets such as PCGamesN have reported it to not be the case, and that no account creation is required whatsoever. Epic has been under fire for its aggressive store exclusivity, and it’s no surprise that people would be upset if they were required to have an account with Epic in order to play a single player game.
